Batu Caves, a beautiful place to visit

Brief Intro of Batu Caves

Batu Caves is a limestone hill that has a series of caves and cave temples located in Gombak, Selangor, Malaysia. It was said that the cave formed around 400 million years ago and since then were used as shelters by the indigenous Temuan people (a tribe of Orang Asli). The cave is one of the most popular Tamil shrines outside India as it was name from the Stone River, which flows past the hill, dedicated to Lord Murugan and the place is the focal point of the Hindu festival of Thaipusam in Malaysia.

The colourful stair steps has count of 272 steps in total in concrete, while back in 1920, it was built as wooden steps. In August 2018, the 272 steps were painted in an extraordinary colour scheme, with each set of steps painted in a different range of colours.

As for the Lord Murugan Statue which represent Murugan, is the tallest statue of a Hindu deity in Malaysia and third tallest statue of a hindu deity in the world. It height 42.7m which is the tallest statue in Malaysia. It took 3 years of construction and unveiled in January during Thaipusam festival, costed 2.5 million Ringgit Malaysia to build this statue.

Experience to Highlights

This is one of the achievement made by me with successfully step up 272 steps and enjoy the view from the top of the mountain, theres a numerous statues of Hindu deities and paintings depicting Hindu mythology. Take note of this as being in a religious site, it's best to dress appropriately, don't over-expose the body would be your best bet, especially for girls wearing short, you need to rent a sarong (a length of fabric to wrapped around the waist) for RM5 to visit the temple.

Theres a largest wholesale market in Kuala Lumpur located a few miles away from Batu Caves, you can find the largest wholesale market in the city called Pasar Borong. From fresh fruists and vegetables to the daily catch of seafood, this market is the perfect to stock up your weekly groceries. Pasar Borong opens up at 3am and shits down shop at 9am.

Besides that, you could also visit waterfall near Batu Caves, as i visited Kanching Waterfall Forest Park which distance 20mins away from Batu Caves. It a cold icey natural waterfall to relax in a hot sunny day, public toilet will cost RM0.50 per visit within the area.
